UNSW Canberra Oceanography Honours student SBLT Scott Allen has successfully completed his Honours thesis on 'The application of artificial neural networks to identify meso-scale eddies along the Eastern Australian Coast'. Mesoscale eddies provide one of the most important driving mechanisms for the global ocean mass and energy system. In his study, Scott used an AI detection system called “py-eddy-tracker” (PET) to detect, track and investigate eddy patterns within the ocean off the East Australian Coast.  On 23 November 2023, Scott presented his research as a poster at the UNSW AI Symposium in Sydney. Congratulations Scott! Job well done!
