  • Dr. Chunhui LI, College of Marine Science, Nanjing University of Information Science & Technology, P.R. China, 18 May 2020 – 17 May 2021

Dr Chunhui Li's research direction is on marine numerical simulation, including near-shore hydrodynamic numerical simulation and sediment transport numerical simulation. He has been engaged in the study and research of physical oceanography since he was an undergraduate. He has published 20 relevant academic papers.

  • Miss. Liu WAN, Ocean University of China (OUC) and University of New South Wales (UNSW), 18 February 2019 – 18 February 2020

Miss Liu WAN is in Double UNSW Canberra-OUC 2+1 Master Program. She majors in Marine Management as a master student at OUC. She is now working with Prof. Xiao Hua Wang and A/Prof. Bill Peirson on a research topic entitled ‘Impacts of climate change on water quality of coastal rivers.

  • A/Prof. Yue MA, Wuhan University, December 2019 – November 2021 

A/Prof. Yue Ma is a Senior Visiting Fellow in School of Science and SARCCM, UNSW Canberra. A/Prof. Ma is from the School of Electronic Information, Wuhan University, China. He is an expert in laser remote sensing.

Visiting Professorial Fellow from Ocean University of China to collaborate with Prof. Hua Wang on the suspended sediment transportation in the muddy coasts of China.

  • A/Prof. Erick Fredj, Jerusalem College of Technology, Israel, 1 August 2018 – 15 August 2018

As a computational chemical-physicist, Erick’s research interests are involved in various research projects, revolving around scientific computational applications. His current research interests are in Hydrological modeling, Physical oceanography, Lagrangian dynamics, dynamics of the Gulf of Eilat, Biotechnology and more.

Visiting Fellow from The First Institute of Oceanography, SOA to collaborate with Prof. Hua Wang on marine fuctional zoning research in China.

  • Dr. Yue MA, Wuhan University, 30 November 2017 – 30 November 2019

Dr Yue Ma is a Visiting Fellow to SARCCM, sponsored by the Office of China Postdoctoral Council. Dr Ma is from the School of Electronic Information, Wuhan University, China. He is an expert in laser remote sensing and worked with Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on a project entitled 'Topography surveying and mapping on offshore island and reef '.

  • Mr. Nan XU, Tsinghua University, 1 December 2017 - 30 May 2018

Mr Nan Xu is a Practicum student to SARCCM, sponsored by the Tsinghua Scholarship for Overseas Graduate Studies. Mr Xu is from the Department of Earth System Science, Tsinghua University, China. He mainly focused on the coastline change detection using remotely sensed data and worked with Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on a project entitled ' Impact of coastline change in China on the offshore hydrodynamics conditions '.

  • Miss. Yaying LIN, Tsinghua University, 1 January 2018 - 31 December 2018

Miss Yaying Lin, a 2nd year Ph.D. candidate from Tsinghua University, P. R. China, is a practicum student to SARCCM, sponsored by China Scholarship Council. She is now working with Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on the topic of 'Numerical modelling of estuarine dynamics'. Her research interests include carbon source, carbon transport and fluid dynamics in estuary.

  • Mr. Honglin SONG, Tongji University, 1 January 2018 - 31 July 2018

Mr Honglin Song is a Practicum student to SARCCM, sponsored by the Tongji Scholarship for Excellent PhD Students. Mr Song is from the Department of Hydraulic Engineering, College of Civil Engineering, Tongji University, China. He mainly focused on the change of hydrodynamic and sediment transport due to harbor constructions using numerical model the Delft3D and worked with Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on a project entitled ' Mechanism of coastal dynamic response to harbor group in the Bohai Bay, China '.

    A research paper 'Advancing the practice of marine eco-compensation in China: Knowledge synthesis from implementation 2011-2014' with co-authors Stuart Pearson. Xiao -Hua Wang, Hong-xu Yu and Julie Kesby is currently in press.
  • Associate Professor Donglan Xu, OUC 27 Sept 2014 –  26 September 2015
    Donglan presented a paper '“Green” productivity’s changing trend under fishery management policies in Australian Commonwealth fisheries' in the UNSW Canberra Asia Pacific Seminar Series, 21 September 2015.
  • A/Prof.  Zhanhai Li, ECNU 25 March 2015– 24 September 2015
    A/Prof. Zhanhai Li is from the State Key Laboratory of Estuarine and Coastal Research, East China Normal University, Shanghai, China. A/Prof. Li  collaborated with A/Prof. Hua Wang on the World Harbour Project to investigate sediment transport in Shanghai Port. A/Prof. Li is jointly sponsored by ECNU and SIMS.
  • Dr Qianguo Xing, YIC/CAS 17 March 2015 – 31 January 2016
    Dr Qianguo Xing is from Yantai Institute of Coastal Zone Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China. He will collaborate with the SARCCM Remote Sensing/GIS group with a research topic entitled 'Optimizing the algorithms of extracting the information of macroalgal blooms'. Dr Xing is sponsored by the China Scholarship Council.
  • Dr Chuhhui Zhou, WuhanUT 1 August 2014 – 31 July 2015
    Dr Chunhui Zhou is a Visiting Fellow to SARCCM, sponsored by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Dr Zhou is from the School of Navigation, Wuhan University of Technology, China. Chunhui visited SARCCM for 12 months. He is an expert in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and worked with A/Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on a project entitled 'Remote sensing of coastal upwelling along the southeast coast of Australia'.
  • Dr Yaping Wang, NJU 30 May 2015 – 6 October 2015
    Dr Yaping Wang is a Professor in the School of Geographic and Oceanographic Sciences, Nanjing University. Dr Wang has published more than 100 peer-viewed academic papers in the field of marine sediment dynamics. His research interests mainly focus on the measurement and modeling of sediment re-suspension, and flocculation and sedimentation in the marine bottom boundary layer. Dr Wang is collaborating with A/Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on sediment dynamics research.
  • Dr Jianyu Hu, XU 29 June – 31 August 2015
    Dr Jianyu Hu, Prof. of Physical Oceanography, State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University, China visited SARCCM from 29/6/15- 31/8/15 to to carry out collaborative research for the project entitled 'The coastal eddies and upwellings'.

 Visiting Fellows for 2014:

  • Dr Jianyu Hu, Prof. of Physical Oceanography, State Key Laboratory of Marine Environmental Science, College of Ocean and Earth Sciences, Xiamen University, China visited SARCCM from 16 April 2014 - 16 October 2014 to carry out collaborative research for the project entitled 'The coastal eddies and upwellings'.

  • Associate Professor Donglan Xu, OUC visited from 27 September 2014 - 26 September 2015. After graduating from Dalian Industry University, China, Donglan worked at the Environmental Protection Bureau of Yanji, Jinlin Province, in China. She has a Masters degree from Kyungpook National University, South Korea (1998-2000), and PhD (2002-2005), post-doc course (2005-2007) in Nagoya University, Japan. After her long overseas study, she returned to China and has been an Associate Professor in School of Economics, Ocean University of China since 2007. Her research interests include environmental and energy economics, marine economics and productivity analysis. 

  • Dr Keliang Chen, an Associate Professor in Third Institute of Oceanography, State Ocean Administration, PRC, visited from 30 December 2014 - 31 May 2015. He has been engaged in the research of marine environmental management and policies for many years, especially, marine eco-compensation regulations.

  • Dr Chunhui Zhou, VF sponsored by the China Scholarship Council (CSC). Dr Zhou is from the School of Navigation, Wuhan University of Technology, China. Chunhui visited SARCCM from 1 August 2014 – 31 July 2015. He is an expert in Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing and worked with A/Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on a project entitled 'Remote sensing of coastal upwelling along the southeast coast of Australia'.

  • Professor Ju YAN Ocean University of China (OUC) Vice-President (Research) visited UNSW Canberra on 27 November 2012

  • Ms Tao Mei is from Education Office, Graduate Research School, Ocean University of China (OUC). Tao was a Visiting Fellow at UNSW Canberra from September 3-30 2012, jointly sponsored by OUC and UNSW Canberra.

Tao is responsible for selecting and managing the China Scholarship Council (CSC) Program students at OUC. Given that UNSW Canberra is one of main OUC MOU universities in Australia and a total of 35 students have come to UNSW Canberra under the CSC scheme, UNSW Canberra hosts most of students from OUC in Australia.

Therefore, her visit was important to the management and improvement of future UNSW Canberra CSC program including intake quantity and quality and its completion, to better understand UNSW Canberra CSC program and strengthen collaboration on academic exchanges of graduate students between OUC and UNSW Canberra.

The objectives of her visit were to (1) perform a review on OUC graduate students studying at UNSW@ADFA under current MOU conditions;(2) develop a plan to enhance future academic exchanges between OUC and UNSW Canberra including CSC program; and (3) provide recommendations how OUC can assist us to implement this plan.

  • Professor Peifang Guo from OUC visited for 1 month as a VF funded by the Rector, UNSW, Canberra. June-July 2012. Prof. Guo worked on collaborative research in the area of ‘Education of Marine Management’. Management of Marine Resources and Rights is a new Discipline of the Ocean University of China (OUC). Prof. Guo is one of the founders in this new discipline. The visit has benefited already with strong collaboration between UNSW and OUC on integrated coastal zone management. A joint proposal to establish MPA/MPhil programs in coastal management was produced as a result of his visit.
  • Associate Professor Hong Mei from OUC visited for 3 months as an OUC funded VF. 2 April-29 June 2012. Mei is an Associate Professor in Law and Politics at Ocean University (OUC) and is also a Postdoctoral Fellow in International Law at Xiamen University (XMU). His research expertise is in environmental law.

During his visit A/Prof. Mei collaborated with A/Prof. Stuart Pearson, A/Prof. Xiao Hua Wang, and members of SARCCM on coastal management. As part of their comparative analysis of legal and regulatory frameworks for coastal management in China and Australia, our visitor A/Prof. Hong Mei  Shengnan Chen (PEMS PhD student) and A/Prof. Stuart Pearson met with Dr David Leary (SARCCM member, UTS), Brian Preston and Jeff Smith (Director of the NSW Environmental Defenders Office) during a visit to Sydney that included a field visit to Towra Point. A co-authored discussion paper was produced as an outcome of this visit.

  • Ms Yuanyuan Zhang from OUC visted for 12 months as an OUC funded VF. August 2011-June 2012. Ms Zhang’s research was focused on marina associated property development in Australia and China.
  • Professor Chich Ted Yang from CSU, USA, visited as a Visiting Fellow (VF) funded by UNSW Canberra. May-June 2011. Prof. Yang was visiting and working with A/Prof. Xiao Hua Wang on sediment transport modelling of Yangtze River estuary. Prof. Yang is the Borland Professor of Water Resources at the Colorado State University, USA.

Prof. Yang has more than 40 years of combined experiences in research, teaching, engineering, and management. He has published three books, five computer model user's manuals, and more than 100 professional papers. He has received numerous honors and awards from different countries. They include, but are not limited to, the Horton Award from the American Geophysical Union; the Huber Civil Engineering Research Prize, the Sevens Award, and the Einstein Award from the American Society of Civil Engineers; the Congress Gold Medal from Pakistan; the Lecturer of the Year award from UNESCO; the Prince Sultan Bin Abdulaziz International Prize for Water from Saudi Arabia, and the Qian Ning Prize for Erosion and Sedimentation Technology from the World Association for Sedimentation and Erosion Research.
