The 15th International Workshop on Modelling the Ocean (IWMO 2025) was successfully conducted at Stanford University, USA, from June 30 to July 1, 2025. The event welcomed the ocean modellers from around the world. The two-day event included informative keynote speeches, technical seminars, poster presentations, and the Outstanding Young Scientist Awards (OYSA). This year's program highlighted cutting-edge research on internal waves, estuarine and coastal modelling, numerical methods, and mixing and submesoscale processes. Several researchers from SARCCM at UNSW Canberra, including Professor Xiao Hua Wang, Dr Yuan Yuan, HDR students Nazeat Ameen Iqra, Numan Al Kibriya, and Yaocheng Deng, presented their work. The diverse presentations showcased SARCCM’s strength in modelling wave-current interactions, sediment dynamics, and coastal flooding associated with coastal dynamics.

One of the most exciting pieces of news of the event is Professor Wang has been elected as the Chair of the International Steering Committee of the IWMO for the period of 2025–2027. Professor Oliver Fringer of Stanford has been elected as the Co-Chair. In the coming years, their roles will be providing the leadership and guidance for the strategic direction of the IWMO community, based on their decades of experience in ocean modelling.
